Hello! I’m Maggy Sterner, brand message detective…
I’m a branding coach and business coach for small businesses, entrepreneurs, and nonprofits. I help people and organizations discover the essence of their brand and find the words to articulate it clearly so they can attract clients or donors.
My beliefs drive my mission and my main belief is this: a brand message that connects with the people you want to reach comes from your heart, not your head.
I believe WHEN you can talk about what you do clearly, you’ll become magnetic to the people who need you. My belief in this is unwavering and unshakeable.
My mission is to help you get out of Jargon-ville and into Communicate-Like-a-Human-ville or die trying.
I believe when you know what YOU believe about the results people get from working with you, the words you say about it will come straight from your heart, you’ll connect with the people who need you most, and you’ll create a sustainable business and make a difference in peoples’ lives.

Who I am for you
I’m your navigator, cheerleader, translator, accountability partner, brand courage coach, and wordsmith. Together, we’ll go through the right steps in the right order following my client-tested process so YOU get exactly where you want to go.
If you’re a coach, consultant, healer, or creative type, I speak your language. I also speak fluent geek, science-y stuff, and have a gift for converting highly-technical words into layman’s language.

How my superpower helps you
I can walk into the middle of a story (whether it’s a military coup, an erupting volcano, or your brand), find the essence of what’s going on, and translate it into words a five-year-old can understand. I’m the one who can see, “Oh, this is what’s really happening here.”
My clients come to me with a burning passion to make a difference, carrying a big pile of jumbley words, and a million stories. My superpower is my ability to hear through your blah-blah and extract the bottom line.
I’m the translator, detective, and brand clarity expert who listens deeply to hear the essence of your thing so you can hear it, too.
How I got here
It’s been a long, fabulous, interesting, adventure-filled ride across many cities and countries. Find out more about my work as a TV and radio reporter for CBS News, and user experience analyst at NPR.org. I completed CTI’s Co-Active Coach training program in 2013 and its 10-month leadership program in 2014.
Personal Bits
I love to travel (All seven continents? Check!) and photograph what I see so you can see it too. I celebrate my birthday wherever Bruce Springsteen is playing (so far: Barcelona, London, Baltimore, Uncasville, CT., other places I forget) because it wakes me up to life when I’m singing really loud and dancing.
I have two beautiful, hilarious children who do work they love, a fabulous Instant Pot that I’m half engaged to (we haven’t picked a date), and am living happily ever after in the Washington, D.C. area.
